A growing number of successful people today have discovered a strategy from the medical community called conversational hypnosis. While traditionally used in a clinical setting with patients to help them sort out problems, this tactic is often used by sales executives, parents and singles to get what they want out of life - whatever that may be.
Conversational Hypnosis As Therapy
In a clinical setting, conversational techniques are intended to get the patient thinking and talking about their situation in a comfortable, non-threatening environment. By starting casual interaction with the patient, the therapist can start to build rapport and trust. Through encouraging active engagement in the conversation, the therapist will often encourage the patient to draw his or her own conclusions that will result in healing or discovering a solution to the problem being treated.
When rapport and trust have been established, the therapist turns to the next step in the technique - distraction. They will distract the patient’s attention by asking questions about other things that may seem unrelated to the problem. Through asking hypothetical questions, the therapist will take the current issue off the patient’s mind for a short time and get them talking in more general terms. While the questions may appear unrelated, they typically relate somehow to the eventual solution. Based on the answers and ideas presented, the therapist is able to challenge the thinking of the patient and allow them to establish their own conclusions and solutions to their problems.
You see, when someone comes up with their own solutions through their own thought process, their decision carries greater weight because it is their own. The therapist didn’t listen to the problem and tell them what to do. But rather, the patient was skillfully encourage to the answer and believed it was their own idea and became committed to the solution. Don’t fail to realize how powerful this is.
How to use conversational hypnosis to your advantage:
How successful would you be if you already had the ability to talk to someone and make them believe the point you were making - without them even knowing you had a point?
For instance, if you are a salesperson you may have used this strategy with a bit of success. You start by getting your lead talking and you try to lead them to the conclusion that they need to have whatever it is you’re selling. If you think back on successful sales pitches, you may remember that a bit of clients just seemed to sell themselves. Whether you knew it or not, you may have used some of these conversational strategies. What if you knew all the tactics and could make this happen every time or even every other time?
Others have successfully used these strategies with relationships. Don’t you think it would be easier to build a relationship with someone who determined on his or her own that you were the perfect catch rather than you telling them it was so? When someone decides something for themselves it has so much more power than if someone else were to give them an opinion. Through the skill of conversational hypnosis, you can persuade someone to draw the conclusion you want them to and they’ll believe it was their idea all the while.
